Gari Melchers (1860–1932) was a prominent American artist who resided at the 18th-century Belmont estate. The house contains his original furnishings and artworks, while the 27-acre grounds feature formal gardens and walking trails. Melchers pursued European training and found inspiration in Virginia, purchasing Belmont in 1916. The estate is now a well-preserved artist studio and residence.A full member of Historic Artists’ Homes and Studios, the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s network of artists’ homes and studios open to the public.
