Arthur Dove and Helen Torr, American modernist artists, lived in a small cottage in Centerport, NY. Dove, considered the first American abstract painter, sought to express nature’s spirit with simplified forms and colors. Torr’s work, characterized by rhythmic and decorative qualities, was reappraised after her death. Their art is closely associated with the Town of Huntington.A full member of Historic Artists’ Homes and Studios, the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s network of artists’ homes and studios open to the public.
