Intro
The Royal The library’s buildings on Slotsholmen, better known as The Black Diamond, are more than just a famous library. The buildings have a long history that everyone can explore.
The Royal Library at Søren Kierkegaards Plads spreads over three very different buildings. Facing the water, Den Sorte Diamant (1999), designed by the Danish architectural group Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, then Preben Hansen’s narrow addition (1968) in the middle and at the very end of HJ Holm’s historic library building from 1906 in connection with the library garden.
